So I went to see the movie 300 in IMAX yesterday and I was not disappointed in it at all. It is hyped as the first blockbuster of the year and it doesn't let you down. Overall I would say that it has at the most maybe 10 pages in total of script. The dialogue although not long is very well done. A lot of "Save Sparta from the heathen Persians" speaches which is the basis of the movie.
Gerard Butlter who plays King Leonidas was amazing in this film. A Kings king and a soldiers soldier would be the best way to describe him. The Queen in the film is portrayed amazingly by Lena Headey who is beautiful and did an excellent job. This film portrays woman as strong as the men which I think is very different from sterotypical movie roles for woman. I like that aspect of this film. King Xerxes is an imposing figure who towers above King Leonida and has a voice like Darth Vader and face piercings that rival Captain Lou Albano.
The battle scenes are right up there with Glaidators but I found them to be even better. The idea that 300 Spartans with a little help from 4000 Arcadians hold off hundreds of thousands of Persians. One scene in paticular where the Spartans in formation march towards the oncoming Persians with a little Evanesance type music in the background was really good.
There is nudity in the film, a lot of nipples and breasts, and I never knew Greece was that cold. A scene with an Oracle (a beautiful see'er of the future) who does a mystical siesure cirque de solei type dance until she works up a great sweat, and then gets licked by something out of The Hills have eyes is something I didn't get. I guess it's that whole mythology/Greek thing.
Scenes of boys and soldiers walking around in the snow in just sandles is a little far fetched to me but it has to do with the "toughness" of the Spartans (a shout out to all those Dartmouth High alumni).
Overall I liked the film, it is going to look good in HD and DVD. During the battle scenes I found myself ducking and dodging in my seat along with the Spartans on the screen. Maybe that was the Imax experience. I would suggest if you are going to see this movie, pay the extra money and go see it in Imax it will be money well spent.

So this is more or less a warning for all of those who have either shopped at Bedroom Depot or are looking at buying some new furniture and are considering going there. I was in the hunt for a new mattress so I went around to the big three, Leons, Brick and World Wide and saw some nice mattress sets. I decided to go take a look at Bedroom Depot on Thursday night and found a Mattress I really liked; a Sealy Fantasia Mattress and Boxspring. It is a really nice pillow top type mattress and was on display in the front window.
So I get a salesperson/Really Dodgy Bastard to give me a hand and tell me some prices. I went all over the store looking at the mattresses and found no prices on any mattresses. So he led me to this Sealy set and I tried it out and found it really comfortable. I asked him how much, again because there were no tags on it, he told me $799. So I asked him what the regular price was he told me that was it. So I said ok, you know i played it like I wasn't really sold on it, so he came back to me and asked if I was paying cash or by finance. I told him I wasn't sure, so he said if I was paying cash he would give it to me for $700 taxes in. So told him that's great and to get one here on Saturday for me and I will pick it up.
So I went in on Saturday with my girlfriend and she tried it out and loved it. No sales guy came over so I told her to just play along with me when one does. When a guy came over I lead him over to the mattress we liked and asked him how much it was. It was a different sales guy then from Saturday, he told me the mattress was $1699 regular price. I said to him "is it on sale right now" he said no that was the price. So I told him the price the other salesperson gave me ,and he just stepped back and said "really". I said yeah and I told him to have it here today for pickup. He told me to hold on and went out back to look for the mattress and came out and said it wasn't there. He asked if I paid for it yet and I said no but the deal was made. As he was talking to me the salesguy I made the deal with on thursday walked in said that he told them to send the mattresses over and they didn't. So I told him I would pick it up in Dartmouth. They offered no excuse or explanation for the increase in price. To top it off because I offered to pick it up in Dartmouth he knocked another $25 off the price. I just say that if you are thinking about going to Bedroom Depot to buy anything then ask to see the price list and don't trust them as far as you can throw them. They are very very dodgy.
